Once you set the password, your hidden photos and videos will no longer be displayed in the shared feed, they will move to a separate section, accessible only through the same swipe gesture down. It is important to remember the installed code, as it can be difficult to restore access without it.

In the MIUI shell, this feature is called Hide Apps, and it's in the same settings menu where we turned on album protection, and once you activate it, you can select the Gallery from the list and add it to the hidden list.
After that, the app icon will disappear from the desktop and from the menu of all programs. To open the hidden gallery, you will need to use a special gesture or enter a command in the search, depending on the version of the firmware.
