Forgot your password from a social network, email or banking application, but remember exactly what you saved it on Xiaomi? Don't rush to reset settings or look for complex programs to hack. Modern smartphones Redmi, POCO and Mi store logins and passwords in several places - you just need to know where to look. In this article, we will analyze all the current ways, from official tools to hidden system functions that work even without superuser rights (root).
It's important to understand that the methods differ depending on the version of MIUI (Xiaomi shell) and the phone model. For example, on the Xiaomi 13 Pro with MIUI 15, the path to passwords will be one, and on the Redmi Note 10 with MIUI 12.5, we took these nuances into account and collected universal instructions that will work on 90% of the brand's devices. If you use third-party browsers (Chrome, Firefox) or password managers (1Password, Keeper) we also have solutions.
1. Xiaomi's built-in password manager (MIUI Password Manager)
The most obvious and secure way is to use the standard password manager, which is pre-installed in MIUI, which automatically stores data from system applications (Mail, Browser, Mi Account) and some third-party services.
- Open the Settings. β Passwords and security.
- Select the password manager (on some versions β password storage).
- Confirm access by fingerprint, pattern lock or PIN-code.
Inside, you'll see a list of saved accounts, sorted by application.
- π View password β tap on the record and click βShow passwordβ (re-authentication will be required).
- π Copy β password or login is copied to the clipboard with one click.
- β Delete β if the record is outdated, it can be deleted by swipe to the left.
- π Exports - on MIUI 14+ Export of passwords to an encrypted file (.csv format).
β οΈ Note: If you have never been able to adjust MIUI Password Manager, it may be empty. In this case, move on to the following ways. Also note that once the phone is reset to factory settings, all passwords from this manager will be deleted without recovery.
2. passwords from the browser: Chrome, Mi Browser, Firefox
Browsers are the second place where passwords are most often saved. Xiaomi has Mi Browser installed by default, but many users use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Let's look at all the options.
Mi Browser (standard Xiaomi browser)
To find the passwords saved:
- Open Mi Browser.
- Slip on the three points in the upper right corner β Settings.
- Go to Passwords (or Save Data on older versions).
- Log in on the PIN-code-print.
This will show all the sites where you saved logins. To see the password, click on the record and select "Show".
2.2. Google Chrome
If you use Chrome, the passwords are synced to your Google account to see them:
- π Open up. chrome://settings/passwords browser-bar.
- π Click on the eye icon next to the password and enter PIN-phone.
- π± Alternative way: Go to Google Settings β Managing a Google Account β Security β Password manager.
β οΈ Note: If you log out of your Google account on your phone, all Chrome passwords will be deleted from your device (but remain in the cloud). To avoid loss, export them in advance to a file.
Update your browser to the latest version
Make sure you are syncing with your Google/Mi Account
Remember. PIN-Screen lock code (required to access)
Check your internet connection (for cloud passwords)-->
2.3. Mozilla Firefox
In Firefox, passwords are stored locally and synced through a Firefox Account to find them:
- Open Firefox and tap on three points β Settings.
- Select Logins and Passwords.
- Enter the master password (if installed) or PIN-phone.
If the master password is forgotten, it is impossible to restore access to saved passwords β this is a feature of Firefox security.
3. System Files: Where Xiaomi Stores Passwords (without root)
If the standard methods didn't work, you can try to find passwords in system files. On Xiaomi, they're stored in encrypted form, but some data is available without root rights.
| Type of data | The path to the file | How to open | Do you need root rights? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi passwords | /data/misc/wifi/WifiConfigStore.xml | File Manager with root or ADB rights | β Yes. |
| Application passwords (MIUI) | /data/system/users/0/accounts.db | SQLite editor (e.g. DB Browser) | β Yes. |
| Cash browsers | /data/data/com.android.chrome/app_chrome/Default/Login Data | Special utilities (e.g. ChromePass) | β Yes. |
| Passwords Mi Account | /data/data/com.xiaomi.account/... | Not recommended (risk of account blocking) | β Yes. |
Without root, you can try to access these files via ADB (Android Debug Bridge), but this requires USB debugging and technical skills, such as a command to copy a file with Wi-Fi passwords:
adb pull /data/misc/wifi/WifiConfigStore.xmlβ οΈ Warning: Direct editing of system files can result in data loss or device locking. If you are not sure about your actions, use official methods (sections 1 and 2).
What is ADB and how to turn it on?
4. Recover passwords via Mi Account (Xiaomi Cloud)
If your Xiaomi has Mi Account sync enabled, some of the passwords could be saved to the cloud.
- π± System applications (Mail, Calendar, Notes).
- π Mi Browser browser (if synchronization is enabled).
- π Some third-party services (e.g. Facebook, Twitter when logged in via Mi Account).
To verify the stored data:
- Go to account.xiaomi.com and log in.
- Select the Device tab β find your phone.
- Press Data Management. β Synchronization.
- Check the Passwords, Notes and Browser sections.
If sync is disabled, turn it on in your phone settings: Settings β Mi Account β Sync. Note that not all passwords are saved in the cloud β only those for which you have explicitly authorized.
π‘
If you have forgotten your Mi Account password, restore it via your linked email or phone number. To do this, click on the login page, "Forgot your password?" and follow the instructions. Do not use third-party services to restore it - this can lead to account blocking!
5 Third-party password managers: 1Password, Keeper, Bitwarden
If you have installed third-party password storage apps (like 1Password, Keeper, or Bitwarden), check them first. These programs store data in encrypted storage that is not associated with Xiaomi's system tools.
How to find passwords in popular managers:
- π 1Password: Open the app. β enter the master password β Go to the Password tab.
- ποΈ Keeper: Launch the application β unlock the vault β select the desired entry.
- π‘οΈ Bitwarden: Authorize β Go to My passwords. β find the right service.
- π± Google Password Manager: Open Google Settings β Account management β Security β Password manager.
If you forget the master password from a third-party manager, you can't restore access to passwords, it's done for security, in which case you just have to reset the storage and start over (but the old passwords will be lost).
β οΈ Note: Some password managers (like LastPass) require subscriptions to sync between devices. If you have an inactive subscription, passwords may not show up on the new phone.
π‘
Password managers are more reliable than Xiaomiβs system tools, because they encrypt data according to the AES-256 standard and allow you to create backups. However, without a master password, you can not restore access to the storage store β keep it in a safe place!
6. What to do if none of the methods worked?
If you've tried all the methods and you haven't found the password, you've got to take radical measures.
- Check backups: π± If you have been doing backup through Settings β System system β Backup, restore it to another device and check the password manager. π₯οΈ Look at backups on PCs (e.g. in Mi) PC Suite or Google Drive).
Reset your password through the service
Most sites (Vkontakte, Instagram, Gmail) have a password recovery feature by email or phone, and use it if other methods have not helped.
Contact us for support of the service
If you're talking about a banking app or a corporate account, contact technical support, and they can reset their password once they've verified their identity.
β οΈ Note: Do not use password cracking software (such as Password Cracker or Hashcat) and not only are they ineffective on modern smartphones, they can also be used to hack passwords:
- π« Infecting your phone with viruses.
- π Blocking your Mi Account Account.
- π΅ Disrupt the system (up to Brick").
If your password is critical (such as a work email or a crypto wallet), contact a cybersecurity professional. Don't try to hack it yourself - it can lead to data loss.
