Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO automatically store passwords from accounts in browsers, apps, and system services β but not everyone knows where to look for that data. Unlike iPhones or pure Android devices, MIUI firmware distributes passwords across multiple sections, from built-in account manager to synchronization with Google Smart Lock, and some of the data may be hidden behind additional security settings or not available at all.
In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to view saved passwords on Xiaomi, from official methods to workarounds for older versions of MIUI. We will pay special attention to the nuances of security: why some passwords are not displayed, how to avoid data leakage when exporting and what to do if the device is blocked. Instructions are relevant for MIUI 12/13/14 and models from Xiaomi Mi 10 to Redmi Note 13 Pro+.
1.System password manager Xiaomi (MIUI Password Manager)
Starting with MIUI 12, the firmware has a built-in Password Manager that stores data from apps, Wi-Fi networks, and some websites, but access to it is limited: if you havenβt set up sync with Mi Account, some passwords may not show up.
To open the manager:
- π± Go to Settings. β Passwords and security β Password manager.
- π Enter. PIN-code, pattern lock or fingerprint to confirm.
- π In the list you will see saved logins and passwords, grouped by category (Apps, Wi-Fi, Websites).
β οΈ Note: If you have previously disabled Autocomplete in your settings, the manager may be empty. To recover data, turn on the option to Save Passwords in the Settings section β Additionally. β Language and input β Auto-filling.
π‘
If the password manager doesn't open, check if the Mi Cloud service is disabled in your account settings. Without synchronization with the cloud, some of the data may not be available.
2. passwords in Google Smart Lock (for browsers and applications)
Most of the passwords from Xiaomi sites and services are not stored in MIUI, but in Google Smart Lock, Googleβs autocomplete system, which includes data entered into Chrome, Gmail, or apps that use Google APIs.
How to view passwords through Google Smart Lock:
- π Open the Chrome browser and go to passwords.google.com.
- π Sign in to the same Google account that is linked to your phone.
- π In the Save Passwords section, you will see a list of sites with logins and the ability to view passwords (repeated authentication will be required).
| Source of password | Where it's stored | Is synchronization required? |
|---|---|---|
| Applications (VK, Telegram, banks) | MIUI Password Manager | Yeah (with Mi Account) |
| Sites (entry via Chrome) | Google Smart Lock | Yes (with Google Account) |
| Wi-Fi networks | MIUI Password Manager | No. |
| Gaming accounts (such as Mi Game Center) | MIUI's closed base | No access. |
β οΈ Note: If you used Incognito Mode in Chrome or disabled password saving, there is no data in Google Smart Lock. β Google β Managing a Google Account β Security β Password manager.
3.Export of passwords from MIUI (for backup)
If you need to transfer passwords to another device or create a backup, MIUI allows you to export data to an encrypted file, but this feature is not available on all models and requires confirmation through Mi Account.
Export instructions:
- Open Settings β Passwords and Security β Password Manager.
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Export Passwords.
- Confirm the action through Mi Account (required) SMS-code-confirmation).
- Select the file format:.csv (for import to other managers) or.mi (encrypted archive for MIUI).
- Save the file to a secure location (e.g., Google Drive with two-factor authentication).
Make sure your Mi Account is confirmed|Check the free space on the device|Turn it off. VPN (may block the confirmation)|Remember. PIN-file-decryption|Save the file to the cloud, not to a memory card-->
β οΈ Note:.csv file with passwords is stored in plain view! If you export it to your computer, be sure to delete the file after importing to another manager (e.g. KeePass or Bitwarden). For maximum security, use the.mi format - it can only be imported on Xiaomi devices.
4. Wi-Fi passwords: where are stored and how to view
Passwords from connected Wi-Fi networks on Xiaomi are not displayed in plain form, but they can be extracted through the Password Manager or special applications. ADB.
How to view Wi-Fi passwords:
- πΆ Through MIUI Password Manager: Go to Settings β Passwords and security β Password manager β Wi-Fi. Click on the network name and type in PIN-code.
- π€ Through ADB (without root: adb pull /data/misc/wifi/WifiConfigStore.xml The file contains encrypted passwords that can be decrypted using utilities like WiFi Password Viewer (requires a PC).
- π Install WiFi Password Recovery from Google Play β it will show all saved passwords in plain sight.
How to decrypt WifiConfigStore.xml
β οΈ Note: Removing passwords through ADB or root applications may violate Xiaomi's security policy, and on some devices (e.g. Redmi Note 12 Pro) this results in blocking Mi Pay or Face Unlock features.
5. Third-party password managers: how to transfer data from MIUI
If the built-in MIUI tools donβt suit you, you can transfer passwords to third-party services like 1Password, Bitwarden or KeePass, which requires you to export your.csv data (as described in Section 3) and import it to the new manager.
Step-by-step instructions for Bitwarden:
- Export passwords from MIUI to passwords.csv.
- Open Bitwarden (web version or application) and go to Settings β Data Import.
- Select the Chrome CSV format (suitable for files from Google Smart Lock) or 1Password 1PIF format (for data from MIUI).
- Upload the file and confirm the import.
Important: When importing into Bitwarden or KeePass, some fields (such as Notes or Creation Date) may not be moved.
6.What to do if passwords are not displayed
If you donβt see saved passwords in MIUI Password Manager or Google Smart Lock, the reasons may be:
- π Sync Disabled: Check Mi Account and Google Account settings β if password sync is turned off, no data is saved.
- π‘οΈ Factory settings: After a hard reset, all local passwords are deleted and can only be restored through a backup of the Mi Cloud.
- π Enterprise Policy Blocking: On some devices (e.g., service devices), the administrator may prevent passwords from being saved.
- π± An outdated version MIUI: Nana MIUI 11 The password manager works differently - the data can be stored in the /data/system/users/0/accounts.db (root-only).
π‘
If passwords are missing after the MIUI update, try rolling back to the previous firmware version via Fastboot or recovering data from the Mi Cloud backup (available within 30 days of resetting).
β οΈ Note: On devices with a locked bootloader (such as Xiaomi 13 Ultra), access to system password files is not possible without unlocking Bootloader. This voids the warranty and may lead to a device blink!
7.Security: How to Protect Passwords on Xiaomi
Storing passwords on a device is always risky, so that you can minimize the risk of:
- π Use two-factor authentication (2FA) For Mi Account and Google Account.
- π΄ Turn off autocomplete for critical services (banks, crypto exchanges) in Settings β Additionally. β Language and input β Auto-filling.
- π Export passwords to an encrypted archive regularly (e.g. via KeePass).
- π« Do not store passwords in notes or screenshots β they are easy to extract through backups.
If you suspect that passwords have been compromised (for example, after installing a suspicious app), immediately:
- Change passwords from important accounts through another device.
- Check your device for viruses using Google Play Protect or Malwarebytes.
- Revoke access to Mi Account and Google Account from unknown devices in the security settings.
