Xiaomi phone lost: how to find it in 10 minutes (even if it’s turned off)

You put Xiaomi on the table, you get distracted for five minutes, and it's gone, or worse, the phone gets stolen, and it's got all the photos, all the bank apps and all the work correspondence, and it's familiar to millions of users, but you don't have to panic, and even if it's turned off or it's dead, the chances of getting it back are still there.

Method 1: Search through Mi Account (even if the phone is turned off)

All Xiaomi smartphones are tied to a Mi Account, and if you set it up, the chances of finding the phone are multiplied.

2. Select the Find Device section (or “Find the device” in the Russian version).
3. The map will show the last known location of the phone, and if it's on and connected to the Internet, the coordinates will be accurate (up to 10 meters in error).
4. Additional options: 🔔 Turn on the sound – the phone will start to ring loud (works even in silent mode); 🔒 Lock the device – set the password on the screen; 🧹 Erase data – a complete reset to factory settings (use as a last resort!).

⚠️ Note: Find Device only works if you:

• 📶 The phone is connected to a mobile network or Wi-Fi;
• 🔋 Battery level above 5%;
• 🛠️ In the settings enabled option Find the device (Settings) → Mi Account → Find the device).

If the phone is turned off, the service will show its last known location (before the moment of disconnection).

If you lose your phone frequently, turn on the Settings to Send the Last Location at Low Charge (Settings) → Additionally. → Special facilities → Battery status. This will help you find the gadget even with the battery dead.

Method 2: Google tracking “Find a Device”

If Mi Account didn’t help or you don’t remember the login details, use Google’s Find Device service, which works on all Android smartphones, including Xiaomi, provided:

• 🌐 Geodata and Device Search included;
• 📶 Internet access (mobile or Wi-Fi).

Instructions:

1. Go to google.com/android/find.
2. Select the lost device from the list (if there are several).
3. The map will show the current or last location.

🔹 Google often determines location more accurately than Mi Account, especially if the phone is connected to Wi-Fi.

🔹 Disadvantage: If an attacker resets the phone to factory settings, the binding to the Google account will disappear.

Method 3: Search for IMEI (if the phone is stolen)

IMEI — This is your unique phone ID (15 digits) and can be used to:

• 📍 Tracking through a communications operator (on request of the police);
• 🚫 Locking the device on the network (so that it cannot be used);
• 📄 Proof of property in the police.

How to find out the IMEI of a lost phone:

1. Look at the phone box (usually there is an IMEI sticker).
2. Check the check or the warranty card.
3. If the phone has been synced to Mi Account, IMEI can be found in the personal account on the Xiaomi website.

🔹 What to say to the operator:

«Good afternoon! my Xiaomi phone with the number [your number] is lost/stolen. SIM-I'll give you the last login to the police, my passport details: [FIO, series/passport number]».

⚠️ Note: The operator is not allowed to track your phone in real time without a request from the police, and the maximum they can do is provide a history of connections to the towers (with an accuracy of 1-3 km).

The operator won't give you back your phone, but it will protect your data and provide information to the police, so don't waste time arguing, you should write a statement to law enforcement right away.

Method 5: Search through social media and ad services

If the phone is lost in a public place (cafe, transportation, office), there is a chance that an honest person found it.

• 💰 Offer a reward (even 1–2 thousand rubles. increase the chances of a job);
• 📞 Please provide an alternative number for communication (not lost!).

Method 6: If the phone is found but blocked

So let's say you got your phone back, but it's locked, and you either forgot your password, or you reset it to the factory settings.

Case 1: Phone requires a password from Mi Account

If after the reset, the phone asks you to enter the Mi Account data that was previously linked:

1. Go to account.xiaomi.com and try to restore access.
2. If you don’t remember your password, click “Forgot your password?” and follow the instructions (you will need access to your email or phone number associated with your account).
3. If the account is not restored, contact Xiaomi support with a check for the purchase.

Case 2: Phone locked after theft (FRP Lock)

If the attacker dropped the phone, but remained linked to Google (Factory Reset Protection)

1. Enter the Google account that was on the phone before the reset.
2. If you don’t remember your password, restore it through accounts.google.com.
3. If your account is deleted or your phone is purchased from hand, contact your previous owner or service center.

To avoid losing your phone, set it up in advance:
