Why Xiaomi Passwords Are Hard to Find โ and Where to Find Them
Xiaomi smartphones (including Redmi and POCO) store passwords in multiple places, from the built-in credentials manager to the Mi Account cloud services. The problem is that the manufacturer does not make a single password management center, like Apple or Google, which results in users losing hours of searching, especially if they forget where they stored the data.
In this article, 5 working ways to find passwords on Xiaomi without root rights and third-party programs.
- ๐ Built-in password manager (hidden in settings) MIUI)
- ๐ Browser (Mi Browser, Chrome, Firefox)
- โ๏ธ Cloud Composites (Mi Cloud and Google Password Manager)
- ๐ฑ Third-party applications (if used) 1Password KeePass)
- ๐ง Manual search in system files (for advanced users)
โ ๏ธ Note: If the phone is encrypted or has restrictions from the employer (for example, through Android Enterprise), some methods may not work, in which case you will need to reset to factory settings - but this will delete all data!
Method 1: Built-in MIUI password manager (hidden function)
MIUI has its own password manager, but it's hidden in the back of the settings. It works on all models starting with MIUI 12 (including Redmi Note 10/11/12, POCO X3/X4/X5, Xiaomi 12/13/14).
To find the passwords saved:
- Open the Settings. โ Passwords and security.
- Tap on the item Password Manager (may be called credentials on older versions).
- Enter. PIN-code, pattern lock or fingerprint to confirm.
- A list of sites and applications for which logins / passwords are saved will open before you.
๐น What can be done in this menu:
- ๐๏ธ View the password (click on the record) โ Showing the password).
- ๐ Copy login or password in the clipboard.
- ๐๏ธ Delete unnecessary records.
- โ๏ธ Enable sync with Mi Cloud (if disabled).
โ ๏ธ Note: If you have previously reset your phone without a Mi Account waiver, this section may be empty โ the data is stored in the cloud, not locally.

Method 2: Passwords in browsers (Chrome, Mi Browser, Firefox)
Most users save passwords right in the browser. Xiaomi has Mi Browser installed by default, but many use Google Chrome or Firefox. Let's look at all the options.
๐ Mi Browser (standard Xiaomi browser)
To see the saved passwords:
- Open Mi Browser.
- Tap it on. โฎ (three-point) โ Settings โ Passwords.
- Confirm access by using biometrics or PIN-code.
- Select a site from the list and click Show Password.
๐ Google Chrome
If you use Chrome, the passwords are synced to your Google account to find them:
- Open Chrome and tap the profile avatar in the upper right corner.
- Select Passwords (or click on chrome://settings/passwords in the address bar).
- Click on the eyewitness next to the password and enter PIN-phone.
๐ฆ Mozilla Firefox
In Firefox, passwords are stored locally (unless sync is enabled).
- Launch Firefox and open the menu (โฎ).
- Go to Settings โ Privacy and Security โ Saved logins.
- Slip on the record and select Show Password.
๐ Important: If you delete your browser, your passwords will also disappear (except for Chrome, where they are linked to your Google account).
| browser | Where passwords are stored | Synchronization with the cloud | Do I need authorization? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Browser | Local + Mi Cloud | Yes (via Mi Account) | PIN/biometry |
| Google Chrome | Google Password Manager | Yes (via Google Account) | PIN/pattern lock |
| Mozilla Firefox | Locally (without synchronization) | Optional (Firefox Account) | Firefox Password |
| Opera/Edge | Opera/Microsoft Cloud | Yes. | Account password |
Method 3: Cloud Copies: Mi Cloud and Google Password Manager
If you enabled sync with Mi Cloud or Google, the passwords could be saved in the cloud, which saves you when you reset or changed your phone.
โ๏ธ Mi Cloud (for Xiaomi accounts)
To check your passwords in Mi Cloud:
- Go to Settings. โ Mi Account โ Mi Cloud.
- Make sure that the password sync slider is enabled.
- Open the web version of Mi Cloud on your computer or other phone.
- Log in and go to the Passwords (or Account Information) section.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you have not been logged in to Mi Account in a long time, the system may require confirmation of the account. SMS If your phone number or email number changes, it will be difficult to restore access, you will need to contact Xiaomi support.
๐ Google Password Manager
If you use Google services (such as Chrome or Gmail), your passwords may have been saved there:
- Open passwords.google.com in any browser.
- Sign in with the same account as on your phone.
- A list of all saved passwords will be opened before you.
๐น Advantage: Google Password Manager works even if your phone is broken or lost.
What if Mi Cloud doesnโt show passwords?
Method 4: Third-party password managers (1Password, KeePass, LastPass)
If you have installed third-party password storage applications (like 1Password, KeePass, LastPass, or Bitwarden), look for the data there. These programs store information in encrypted containers that the system cannot see.
๐น How to find out:
- ๐ Check the installed applications in Settings โ Apps. Search by keywords: password, vault, keeper.
- ๐ฑ If the app is deleted but you remember its name, install it again โ some managers (like KeePass) store data in a file on the phone (.kdbx).
- โ๏ธ Check the cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox), where the backup of the password database could be exported.
๐ Example: In KeePass, the password database usually lies along the way: /storage/emulated/0/Download/ or /storage/emulated/0/Documents/ (Look for a file with the.kdbx extension).
โ ๏ธ Note: If you have forgotten the master password from the manager (for example, 1Password), It's almost impossible to restore access to data -- even a phone reset won't help.
Method 5: Manual search in system files (for advanced)
This method is suitable if you are not afraid to dig into system files and know how to use a root-access Explorer (for example, Root Explorer or FX File Manager).
๐น Where to find:
- ๐ /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db โ Some of the system's credentials may be stored here.
- ๐ /data/data/com.miui.securitycenter/databases/ โ password manager database MIUI.
- ๐ /data/data/com.android.browser/databases/ โ Passwords from the standard browser (on older versions of Android).
- ๐ /sdcard/Download/ or /sdcard/Documents/ โ Exported password files may be located here (e.g. from KeePass).
Important: The files in /data/data/ folder are available ONLY with root rights. Without them, you will see the message "Disagreed". If root is not available, try connecting the phone to your computer and using ADB (instruction below).
๐ง How to look through ADB (rootless):
- Turn on USB Debugging in Settings โ About Phone โ MIUI version (shap 7 times, then go back to Additional Settings โ For Developers).
- Connect your phone to your PC and execute the command: adb pull /data/data/com.miui.securitycenter/databases/ password_backup.db (This will copy the password database to the computer).
- Open the file. password_backup.db using SQLite Browser or similar program.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Wrong commands ADB If you're not sure, you should consult a specialist.
๐ก
Without root rights, you can only see passwords that are stored in open folders (such as exported files) or synced to the cloud (/data/data/) protected.
What to do if passwords are not found
If none of these methods worked, it is possible:
- ๐งน Passwords were deleted when the phone was reset.
- ๐ Restrictions from the employer (for example, through Android Enterprise).
- ๐ก๏ธ antivirus or MIUI Optimization blocks access to password manager.
- ๐ฑ The phone was embroidered with custom firmware (like LineageOS) that doesn't support Mi Cloud.
๐น Decisions:
- Check backups: If you did backup through Settings โ Additional โ Backup and Reset, restore it.
- For Mi Cloud, account.xiaomi.com, for Google, support.google.com.
- Reset passwords manually: Most sites have a โForgot password?โ feature โ use it to restore access.
๐ก Advice for the future: Set up automatic password sync with Google or Mi Cloud and regularly export them to a file (for example, in KeePass.
