If youβve ever looked at the installed app list on a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO smartphone, youβve probably noticed the strange name com.xiaomi.account. It doesnβt have a familiar icon, doesnβt show up on the menu, and often raises questions like what the program is, can it be removed, and why it consumes traffic in the background?
In fact, com.xiaomi.account is the core of the Mi Account, without which key functions of the brand ecosystem don't work: from synchronizing contacts to unlocking the bootloader, from cloud backup to managing smart devices, all of this depends on this system component. But why is it hidden from the user, how to manage it and what to do if he starts to "glut"?
What is com.xiaomi.account and why is it needed?
com.xiaomi.account is the internal name of the service application responsible for the operation of Mi Account (the official Xiaomi account), which is integrated into the MIUI firmware at the system level and performs several critical functions:
- π Authentication: Confirmation of user identity when logging in, shopping in the Mi Store or using cloud services.
- βοΈ Data Sync: Backup of contacts, notes, photos and settings to the Mi Cloud.
- π± Device management: linking smartphones, smartwatches, routers and other Xiaomi equipment to one account.
- π Unlocking the bootloader: without the attached Mi Account, it is impossible to officially unlock the bootloader for installing custom firmware.
In fact, it's a bridge between your device and Xiaomi's servers, and without it, many features will either be unavailable or crash, such as if you turn off com.xiaomi.account, stop updating the home screen weather, lose access to MIUI themes, and smart devices will no longer respond to commands from the Mi Home app.
It's important to understand that it's not a virus or spyware, as users sometimes think, but it's a regular component of the ecosystem that can be compared to Google Play Services on pure Android. But unlike Google, Xiaomi doesn't always transparently inform users about its work, which is what gives rise to myths.
What does com.xiaomi.account look like in the system?
Unlike regular apps, com.xiaomi.account does not have an icon in the menu and does not appear in the list of installed programs in Settings β Applications.
- π Application Manager (All Applications or Systems section in Settings).
- π Traffic Analytics (in Settings) β Connections β Use of data).
- π οΈ ADB-Teams (for experienced users).
It looks like a gray rectangle with the words com.xiaomi.account and takes up 50 to 150 MB of memory (depending on the version of MIUI), and it usually lists:
- Internet access;
- Reading and recording account data;
- Managing phone calls (for synchronization of contacts)
- Sending push notifications.
If you try to open it through the application manager, the system will either redirect you to the Mi Account settings, or it just won't happen. It's normal behavior -- the app is not designed to directly interact with the user.
Why does com.xiaomi.account consume traffic?
Can I delete com.xiaomi.account?
Technically, it can be removed, but it is strongly discouraged.
β οΈ Note: Deleting com.xiaomi.account will result in loss of access to all Xiaomi services, including cloud storage, theme store and even some system features (for example, weather on the home screen.
If you want to get rid of it, there are two ways:
- Through ADB (requires unlocked bootloader and superuser rights): adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.xiaomi.account This command will remove the application only for the current user, but will not affect system files.
- Through custom Recovery (e.g. TWRP): You need to manually find and delete /system/priv-app/MiAccount or /system/app/MiAccount files, but this can lead to a device failure.
Alternatively, disable the application (if the system allows) to do this:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select "Show all apps."
- Find com.xiaomi.account, open his card and click "Disable".
However, even after the shutdown, many MIUI functions will no longer work properly, for example, the ability to update the firmware over the air (OTA) may be lost.

If you are concerned about traffic consumption, instead of deleting, turn off automatic sync in the Mi Account settings: Settings β Xiaomi Account β Sync and select only the necessary data.
com.xiaomi.account errors and how to fix them
Sometimes com.xiaomi.account can cause crashes, such as persistent error notifications, log-in freezes, or inability to sync, and consider the most common problems and solutions.

com.xiaomi.account and custom firmware: what you need to know?
If you install informal firmware (such as LineageOS, Pixel Experience, or HavocOS), com.xiaomi.account may cause problems:
- β On some custom ROM It is not working due to the lack of proprietary libraries Xiaomi.
- β οΈ When installing firmware without GApps (Google Services), synchronization conflicts may occur.
- π§ Manual patch installation is sometimes required to work properly (e.g. Mi Account Fix for a particular model).
If the Mi Account has stopped working after the firmware:
- Check if your custom firmware supports Xiaomi services (information is usually listed on the developer forum, for example, XDA Developers).
- Install a patch for com.xiaomi.account (if available for your model).
- In extreme cases, return to the official MIUI via Fastboot.
Remember: when using unofficial firmware, the Xiaomi warranty is canceled, and some features (such as the camera or sensors) may not work properly.
