Why Xiaomi doesnβt have a default battery percentage and how to fix it
You've just unpacked the new Xiaomi 14 or Redmi Note 13 Pro+, charged it to 100% -- and suddenly you find that there's no digital charge indicator on the battery icon in the status bar. Instead of the usual "98%" or "15%" -- just an abstract icon that's hard to interpret without experience. It's not a fluke or a marriage: that's how MIUI (and now HyperOS) policy works, where the default battery percentage is hidden on most models.
Xiaomi engineers explain the reason for this decision by striving for βminimalist designβ and reducing visual noise on the screen. However, for users who are used to controlling charge in numbers β especially on devices with a capacity of 4500-5500 mAh β this creates inconvenience. Fortunately, interest can be returned in four official ways (and one hidden), with the setting up taking no more than a minute.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods for MIUI 14/15 and HyperOS, including solutions for older models (Redmi 9A, Poco X3) and devices with custom firmware, and you will learn why sometimes the percentage disappears after an update and how to fix it without resetting.
Method 1: Basic settings (works on 90% of models)
The most obvious and universal method is to include a percentage through the settings menu. MIUI 12-15 and HyperOS, including budget Redmi and Poco gaming, EEA Russia.
Open the Settings app (cog icon) and follow the steps:
- Go to the Screen section (or Display in English firmware).
- Scroll down to Status Bar (or Status Bar) block.
- Show the percentage of battery charge (or Battery percentage).
- Insert the switch in the "On" position.
After that, the percentage of charge will appear next to the battery icon in the upper right corner of the screen. On some models (for example, Xiaomi 13 Ultra), the digit is displayed inside the icon, which saves space in the status bar.
Update the firmware to the latest version
Reboot your smartphone
Make sure the developer mode is on (not necessarily, but will help if problems are affected)-->
β οΈ Note: On HyperOS devices (e.g. Xiaomi 14 or Redmi) K70) The path may be slightly different: β Screen. β Additionally. β Status bar. If there is no item, see the hidden method below.
Method 2: Through the Quick Settings Panel (for MIUI 14+)
In the latest versions of MIUI, developers have added the ability to control the percentage display directly from the notification bar, which is convenient if you do not want to dig into the settings menu.
- Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
- Swipe down again to turn the panel completely.
- Click on the "cog" icon (or "pencil") in the upper right corner.
- In the list of tiles, find the percentage of battery charge and drag it to the active area.
- Return to the home screen β now when you deploy the panel, you will see the percentage of charge next to the battery icon.
This method doesnβt work on all models, but itβs been tested on the Xiaomi 13T, Redmi Note 12 Pro, and Poco F5. If the tiles arenβt on the list, your firmware doesnβt support this feature, and you should use the former.

If the Charge Percent tile doesn't appear in the list, try updating the firmware through Settings β About Phone β System Update. In some cases, the feature appears after the update.
Method 3: Hidden settings for older models (MIUI 11β13)
If you have a MIUI 11-13 device (like a Redmi 9C, Poco X3 NFC, or Mi 10T), the standard path from the first method may not work, in which case the battery percentage is hidden in the additional parameters of the developer.
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone. Tap 7 times on MIUI Version (you will be notified "You're a developer!").

On some firmware (e.g. MIUI 12.5 Enhanced), this option may be called Battery percentage in status bar. If it isn't, try the ADB method.

Method 4: Alternative method through MIUI Lab (hidden function)
On devices with MIUI 14+ and HyperOS, there is a hidden menu called MIUI Lab, where you can turn on battery percentage even if it is not in the basic settings, which works on Xiaomi 13/14, Redmi Note 12/13 and other recent models.
Instructions:
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to About the Phone.
- Tap 5 times in a row on the item MIUI version (not to be confused with the developer mode!).

- Turn on the battery percentage switch.
Step-by-step:
- Turn on USB debugging on your phone: Activate Developer Mode. In the Developer Menu, turn on USB Debugging.

Open the command prompt (or Terminal on macOS/Linux) and type:
adb shell settings put global battery_percent 1Once you've done the command, restart your phone. Charge percentage will appear in the status bar. To turn it off, use:
adb shell settings put global battery_percent 0π‘
ADB-team battery_percent 1 It works on all versions of Android, including custom firmware. It's a universal solution if standard methods don't help.
Compatibility table: what method works on your model
To save time, use the compatibility table, which lists proven methods for popular Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices:
| Model | MIUI/HyperOS | Method 1 (Settings) | Method 2 (panel) | Method 3 (Developer) | Method 4 (Laboratory) | Method 5 (ADB) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 14 | HyperOS 1.0 | β | β | β | β | β |
| Redmi Note 13 Pro+ | MIUI 14.0.5 | β | β | β | β | β |
| Poco F5 | MIUI 14 | β | β | β | β | β |
| Xiaomi 12T | MIUI 13.0.12 | β | β | β | β | β |
| Redmi 9A | MIUI 12.5 | β | β | β | β | β |
If your model isn't in the table, start with the first method, which works 90% of the time. For devices older than 2020 (Redmi 8, Mi A3), most often only ADB helps.
Frequent problems and solutions
Even after the battery percentage is turned on successfully, users face typical problems, and here are the most common ways to fix them:
- π Percentage goes missing after rebooting: Update your firmware to the latest version. If the problem persists, use it. ADB-Team (it saves settings forever).
- π± The number is superimposed on notification icons: Try changing the display style in Settings β Screen. β Status bar. HyperOS has an "Inside Icon" option, which saves space.
