The situation is familiar to many: you plug Xiaomi into the charger, charge animations appear on the screen, percentages even begin to rise β but after an hour or two you find that the battery level has not changed or even dropped. In some cases, the phone may even run out before it turns off, despite the connected power. This problem is typical for most models of the brand, from the budget Redmi Note 10 to the flagship Xiaomi 13 Ultra.
The reasons for this behavior are divided into hardware (60% of cases) and software (40%), most often a damaged cable, a contaminated USB-C connector, or a malfunction of the power controller. But sometimes the problem lies deeper β in firmware, a malfunctioning battery or even a factory defect of the board. In this article, we will analyze all possible scenarios, from the simplest checks to methods that require disassembly of the device.
Important: If your Xiaomi gets hot when charging or if it says, "Charging is suspended. Temperature is too high," that's a separate problem related to overheating, and we've covered the solutions in the special section below.
Before you bring your phone to the service center, go through our checklist, and 70% of the time, the problem is solved by yourself in 10 to 30 minutes.
1. Checking of charger and cable
Start with the obvious, the power source. Even if the indicator on the screen shows charging, it does not guarantee that current actually enters the battery. The fact is that Xiaomi smartphones determine the connection to the network by voltage on USB-C contacts, not by real energy flow.
Here's what we need to do:
- π Try another charger, preferably an original one from Xiaomi or a certified one (like Anker or Baseus). The power must be at least 18W for fast charging.
- π Replace the cable. Even if it's intact, it could break the wiring inside, especially for cheap cables without wiring.
- π± Connect your phone to another device (computer, power bank), and if charging is going well, the problem is with the power outlet or the power supply.
Pay attention to the charging indicator on the screen:
β‘ Lightning β fast charging (but not the fact that the battery is actually charging).
β³ A lightning-free circular indicator is slow charging (possibly a cable or block does not support Quick Charge).
β Red cross on the battery icon -- the phone recognizes the connection, but no current is coming in.
Critical point: if the phone is detected but not charged when connected to the computer, the problem is precisely in the power supply or cable. USB- PC port gives insufficient current (usually 0.5A), and this is normal.
2. Cleaning the USB-C connector and checking contacts
The USB-C connector in Xiaomi smartphones is one of the most vulnerable places. Dust, pile from pockets, contact oxidation or even microcracks on the board can lead to the phone not physically getting power, but the software part βthinksβ that charging is going.
How to clean the connector correctly:
- Turn off your phone (this is important so you donβt close contacts).
- Take a wooden toothpick or plastic spatula (not metal!) and carefully remove the garbage from the connector.
- Use alcohol (90%+) or a special contact fluid to remove oxidation, apply a couple of drops to a cotton swab and wipe the contacts.
- Let the phone dry for 10-15 minutes before turning on.
If the problem remains after cleaning, examine the connector for mechanical damage:
- Contorted contacts (often after falls).
- Traces of corrosion (green or white plaque).
- Luft when connecting a cable (may mean the pivot of the connector from the board).

Warning: Don't use compressed air to clean the connector! The jet can damage chips on the board or drive dust deeper.

3. Battery diagnostics: wear and bloating
The average battery life of Xiaomi smartphones is 2-3 years (or 500-800 charge cycles), after which the capacity drops and the power controller starts to work incorrectly, symptoms of βfalse chargingβ often appear when:
Battery wear over 80% (checked in Settings β Battery condition).
- Bloating (the phone "inflates" the case, the screen begins to "go away").
Overheating of the battery (the phone turns off when charging or shows "Battery temperature is too high")
How to check the status of the battery:
- π Enter ##4636## in the phone app, select Battery Information. Compare Charge Level (should match the indicator) and Status (unknown is a controller problem).
- π Use apps like AccuBattery (available on Google Play) that show real capacity and wear.
- ποΈ Visually inspect the battery (if the phone is collapsible). A bloated battery is dangerous and requires immediate replacement.
If the wear exceeds 60%, and the phone discharges in a few hours even when shown "charging", the battery must be changed. In Xiaomi service centers, the original battery for most models costs 1,500-3,000 rubles (price 2026).
| Xiaomi model | Average battery life | Replacement cost (official service) | Signs of wear and tear |
|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10/11 | 2.25 years | 1 800β2 200 β½ | Fast discharge, heating, "jump" percent |
| Xiaomi 12/13 | 2.5β3 years | 2 500β3 000 β½ | False charging, sudden shutdowns |
| POCO X3/X4 | 1.5-2 years | 1 500β2 000 β½ | Bloating, overheating when charging |
| Xiaomi Mi 11 | 2β3 years | 2 800β3 200 β½ | Charging "hangs" at one percent. |

Warning: If the battery is swelling, you can't keep using the phone! This could cause fire or damage to the board. Disconnect the device immediately and call the service.
4. Reset settings and firmware update
Sometimes the problem is software, power controller failures, kernel errors, or conflicts after an upgrade can cause the phone to "think" it's charging, but it doesn't actually get the current to the battery.
What can be done:
- π Update your firmware. Go to Settings β About your phone β System Update. If you have an update, install it.
- βοΈ Reset to factory settings. This will delete all data, but often solves charging problems. Settings β Additional β Restore and Reset β Reset settings.
- π± Reboot your phone in Safe Mode, and if it's charging normally, it's one of the apps that you've installed that's to blame.
If you still have a problem after reset, try flashing your phone manually through the Mi Flash Tool, an extreme technique that requires skill, and instructions for specific models can be found on the 4PDA or XDA Developers forum.

Before resetting, back up your settings via Settings β Additional β Backup. This will save your contacts, photos and app settings.
5. Problems with the power controller and the charge
If all previous methods have failed, there is likely a hardware problem: in Xiaomi smartphones, several components are responsible for charging:
Power controller (usually a Qualcomm PMIC or MTK PMIC chip).
- The power chains on the motherboard.
USB-C connector (can depart from the board).
Symptoms of Controller Failure:
The phone does not turn on without charging, but it works when connected to the network.
- Charging is only off when it's off.
The battery is discharged even when the charger is connected.
The phone overheats in the processor area when trying to charge.
In this case, a diagnosis is required at the service center, the average cost of repair:
Replacement of the power controller: 3000-6000 β½.
- Interploughing of the USB-C connector: 1,500β2,500 β½.
- Power chain repair: 2,000β4,000 β½.
β οΈ
Note: If you are offered to βswitch power controllerβ instead of replacement β it is a fraud. PMIC is not stitched, it can only be replaced.
π‘
Hardware charging problems are almost never solved on their own. If the phone doesn't charge after cleaning the connector and resetting the settings, bring it to the service.
External factors: temperature, humidity, mechanical damage
Sometimes the phone doesn't charge because of external conditions that block the battery's current, and here are the most common scenarios:
Temperature restrictions
- π‘οΈ Xiaomi blocks charging if the battery temperature goes beyond 0Β°C to 45Β°C. The indicator can show the process, but the current does not arrive.
- π₯ If your phone overheats (for example, after playing games or in the sun), wait 15-20 minutes before charging.
- βοΈ In the cold (-10Β°C), the lithium-ion batteries don't take charge. Let the phone warm up to room temperature.
Moisture and corrosion
If the phone fell into water or was in a damp environment, the contacts could oxidize, and even if everything was dry, there could be condensation inside.
Do not connect the charger for at least 24 hours.
Use silica gel bags (from shoe boxes) to absorb moisture.
If after drying the problem remains - you need to clean the board in the service.
Mechanical damage
Blows, falls or severe compression of the body can lead to:
- Detachment of the battery from the contacts.
Cracks on the board (especially in the area of the power controller).
- Damage to the USB-C connector.
If the phone fell from a height or was pressed (for example, sat on it), examine the body for deformities. Even a small dent can indicate serious internal damage.
7. Solving the problem of overheating when charging
If your Xiaomi displays a message saying βCharge is suspended. Temperature is too highβ but the battery is not charging, follow this instruction:
Causes of overheating:
- Connector contamination or contact oxidation (increases resistance).
Use of a non-original charger (especially with high power).
Background processes (games, updates, viruses) loading the processor.
- Faulty battery (blown or worn).
How to eliminate:
- Turn off the phone from charging and let it cool (15-30 minutes).
- Close all applications through Recent β Close all.
- Transfer the phone to Airplane Mode while charging.
- Try charging your phone when it is off.
- If nothing helps, reset your settings to factory settings (see section 4).
If the phone is constantly overheating even without charging, it can talk about:
- CPU or graphics chip malfunctions.
- Pollution of the cooling system (for models with active cooling, for example, Black Shark).
- Virus, miner or malware.
