Xiaomi Redmi 10 is one of the most popular budget smartphones with support for fast charging technology. However, many users are faced with the fact that the device charges too slowly, even though the specs indicate 18W Fast Charging. The reason often lies in the wrong settings, unoriginal accessories or software limitations. In this article, we will analyze all the working ways to enable fast charging, check the compatibility of chargers and find out why a smartphone can ignore the feature.
It's important to understand that fast charging on Redmi 10 doesn't always work out of the box. The manufacturer sometimes limits the default power to extend the battery life. In addition, the smartphone automatically reduces the charging speed when using uncertified cables or adapters. We tested all methods and put together a checklist to help accelerate charging to a maximum of 18 watts.
1. Checking the compatibility of the charger
The first thing to do is make sure your charger supports Quick Charge 3.0 or Power Delivery (PD).The Xiaomi Redmi 10 is officially compatible with 18W adapters, but there are nuances:
- β‘ Original Adapter: Complete with Redmi 10 charging 10W (5V/2A). For full fast charging, a separate adapter is needed. 18W (9V/2A or 12V/1.5A).
- π Third-party charging: adapters from Xiaomi Mi 11 will fit, POCO X3, Samsung Fast Charge (with support) QC 3.0) or any marked PD 18W+.
- π± Cable: should support data transfer (not a charging cable) and use the original cable optimally USB-C Xiaomi cable or certified cable USB 2.0 Type-C.
How do you check the charging power in real time? Go to Settings β Battery status while charging. If you see Fast Charging or 18W at the top of the screen, everything works correctly. If you see 10W or Normal Charging, the problem is in the adapter or settings.
β οΈ Note: Using cheap, uncertified chargers can overheat your battery and shorten its lifespan. Xiaomi recommends using only original or certified accessories.
2. Enabling fast charging in MIUI settings
In some MIUI firmware, the fast charging function is disabled by default to activate it:
- Open Settings β Battery and Performance.
- Select Battery Settings β Charging Mode.
- Activate the Quick Charging Switch (if any).
On some versions of MIUI 12/13, the path may be different: Settings β Additional β Special features β Charging Optimization. Here you need to turn off Adaptive Charging, as it artificially limits power to save battery life.
Check out the MIUI version (update if necessary)
Use the original USB-C cable
Connect the 18W+ compatible adapter
Turn off adaptive charging in settings-->
If the menu does not include Quick Charging, it can mean:
- π Your firmware does not support manual control (relevant to the MIUI Global Stable to Version 12.5).
- π± The smartphone automatically determines the charging power and does not require additional settings.
- π§ The software needs to be updated (see section 4).
3. Why fast charging doesn't work: top-5 cause
Even with the right settings, Redmi 10 can charge slowly.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Charging is going to 10W. | Incompatible adapter or cable | Use the original 18W adapter and USB-C cable |
| Smartphone heating | MIUI limits power when overheating (>40Β°C) | Let the device cool or remove the case |
| Low percentage charge (0-15%) | MIUI algorithm first stabilizes battery | Wait 10-15 minutes, the speed will increase. |
| Charging is interrupted | Problems with USB-C connector or cable | Clean the dust connector, try another cable |
| No option in the settings | An outdated version of MIUI | Update the firmware (section 4) |
Pay special attention to the temperature of the device. Redmi 10 automatically reduces the charging power if the battery temperature exceeds 40-45 Β° C. This is protection against battery degradation. To check the temperature, go to Settings β Battery Status β Temperature.
β οΈ Warning: If the smartphone is heated above 45Β°C during charging, immediately disconnect it from the mains. Prolonged overheating can damage the power controller.
π‘
To speed up cooling, place your smartphone on a hard surface (not a pillow or blanket) and remove your case. Avoid charging in direct sunlight.
4. firmware update to support fast charging
Older versions of MIUI (below 12.5) may not support manual fast charging control to fix this:
- Go to Settings β About the phone β System update.
- Click Check Updates and install the latest version of MIUI.
- After the update, restart the device.
If the update doesnβt work, try resetting to factory settings: Settings β Additional β Restore and Reset β Reset. Attention: this will delete all data, so make a backup beforehand.
How to check the current version of MIUI?
For advanced users, if you use custom firmware (like LineageOS or Pixel Experience), fast charging may not work due to the lack of drivers, in which case you will need to flash the original software through Fastboot.
5. Alternative methods of accelerating charging
If the standard methods donβt work, try these techniques:
- β‘ Airplane mode: Turn off mobile network and Wi-Fi while charging, which will reduce the load on the processor and speed up charging by 10-15%.
- π Background Disconnect: Close all applications through Recent β Background processes are consuming energy.
- π΅ Turning off the device: if the smartphone is discharged to 0%, charging will go faster when turned off.
- π Power Bank usage: Some external batteries (e.g. Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 3) support Quick Charge 3.0 and can charge the Redmi 10 at full power.
Another life hack: if you use wireless charging, know that Redmi 10 does not support Qi Fast Charge. The maximum wireless charging power for this model is 10W, so the cable will always be faster.
π‘
The most efficient way to speed up charging is by combining the original 18W adapter, the aircraft mode and the screen off, which gives you up to 30 percent speed gain.
6. Diagnosis of malfunctions: when to contact the service
If none of the methods worked, hardware problems are possible:
- π Battery wear: After 500 charging cycles, battery capacity decreases by 20β30%, and fast charging may not turn on. β Battery status β Capacity.
- π The connector is damaged. USB-C: if the cable is poorly held or charging is interrupted, a replacement of the connector is required.
- π± Power controller failure: If the smartphone does not respond to different chargers, the charging control chip may have been damaged.
For diagnosis:
- Connect Redmi 10 to another charger (e.g., from a tablet or laptop).
- Try charging another device with your adapter.
- If the problem persists, contact the Xiaomi service center.
β οΈ Warning: Don't try to disassemble your smartphone yourself to replace the battery or connector. Xiaomi Redmi 10 has a fragile plume tape that is easy to damage without a special tool.
