Why Xiaomi doesnβt have default percentage and how to fix it
You just bought a new Xiaomi 14 or Redmi Note 13 Pro, and instead of the usual percentages, the status bar has just a battery icon with no numbers? This is not a bug, but a feature of the MIUI shell (and the new HyperOS). By default, the manufacturer hides the exact charge values so as not to "clutter up" the top panel. But for many users, this creates discomfort: how to understand how much charge is left - 15% or 50%? This is especially critical for owners of smartphones with a small battery (for example, Xiaomi 13 Lite with a 4500 mAh battery).
Fortunately, you can get your interest back in literally 2-3 taps β and you don't need root rights or third-party apps. In this article, we'll look at 5 proven ways, including hidden settings for older versions of MIUI, ADB commands for advanced users, and even alternative launchers, and we'll also look at why interest drops after an update and how to fix it.
π Important: The instructions below work on all modern Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO steerable MIUI 12β14 and HyperOS (including global and Chinese firmware). If you have a smartphone older than 2019 (like the Redmi Note 7), some menu items may be called differently - see the section for older versions.
Method 1: Standard MIUI/HyperOS settings (fastest)
In 90% of cases, the percentage of charge is turned on through the usual settings menu.
- Open the Settings app (cog icon).
- Go to the Screen section (or additionally β Screen on some models).
- Slip on the status bar (in HyperOS can be called the notification panel).
- Find the option to Show battery power in percentage and activate the switch.

Method 2: Through the MIUI Lab (for hidden functions)

- Tap 5-7 times on the MIUI version until the notification βYou became a developer!β appears.
- Go back to the main settings menu and find the new section Additional β MIUI Lab (or Advanced Settings β Special Features).

Method 3: ADB commands (for advanced users)
If the first two fail and the firmware doesn't update, you'll have to manually enable it through ADB. This is the official method, which doesn't require root rights, but you'll need a computer.
- Download and install ADB Tools on PC.
- Turn on USB debugging on your smartphone: Settings β About Phone β MIUI version (tap 7 times) β For developers β USB debugging.
- Connect the phone to your computer and type in the command line (Windows) or terminal (Mac/Linux):
adb shell settings put global battery_percent_show 1After you execute the command, restart the device. Percentages should appear in the status bar.
π§ If it doesnβt work: Try an alternative command for older versions. MIUI:
adb shell settings put secure battery_percent 1What if the ADB canβt see the device?
Method 4: Alternative launchers (if nothing helps)
