Why power saving mode interferes with the smartphone and how to turn it off
Power saving mode on Xiaomi devices is a useful feature for extending autonomy, but sometimes it turns into a real headache. Users face sudden performance restrictions, turning off background applications and even notification problems, especially for Redmi, POCO and flagship Mi models, where aggressive MIUI optimization can block important processes.
The main problem is that power saving mode on Xiaomi works on several levels: it is a system setting MIUI, and individual limitations for applications, and even hardware limitations on some models. Simply turning off the slider in the settings often does not solve the problem completely, it requires a comprehensive approach. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to disable, including hidden settings and solutions for specific models.
Itβs important to understand that different MIUI versions (from MIUI 12 to MIUI 14 to HyperOS) may have different settings, and weβve taken these into account and prepared general instructions that will be suitable for most Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO devices in recent years. If your smartphone is released before 2019, some items may not be available, which weβll mention.
Method 1: Standard shutdown via battery settings
Let's start with the most obvious method, which works on 90% of Xiaomi devices, and it's a good way to turn off the main power saving mode, which is activated at low charge or manually.
- Open the Settings app (cog icon).
- Go to the Battery section (some models may call it Battery and Performance).
- Slip on the item Power saving mode or Super energy saving.
- Turn off the slider at the top of the screen. If you have a choice between modes (Balanced, Energy Saving, High Performance), choose High Performance.
- Save the changes and restart the device (this is important for the application of settings).
On some firmware (e.g. MIUI 13 for Xiaomi 12), hidden power saving for individual applications may remain active after the main mode is turned off. To check this, go back to the Battery section and select Application Battery Use. Here you will see a list of programs marked Limited - they need to be configured manually.

An important nuance: on HyperOS devices (such as Xiaomi 14 or Redmi Note 13), the path may be slightly different. Instead of Power Saving Mode, look for Battery Settings β Power Modes. There may also be a separate Adaptive Energy Saving option here, which is also recommended to be turned off.
Method 2: Disabling energy saving for individual applications
Even if you turn off the main mode, MIUI by default limits the background activity of many applications, including messengers (Telegram, WhatsApp), social networks (Instagram, TikTok), and even system services, to remove these restrictions:
- Go to Settings β Battery β Use of battery applications.
- Select an app from the list (or find it through search).
- Slip it and select No Limits (or Allow background activity on newer versions).
- Activate AutoRun option (this will allow the application to work after the reboot).
For convenience, we have compiled a list of apps that must be removed if you want to receive notifications on time:
- π± Telegram β no push notifications come without background activity.
- π¬ WhatsApp may not update chats in real time.
- π΅ Spotify/Yandex Music β interrupted playback when the screen is blocked.
- π Google Maps/Yandex Maps β switches off navigation in the background.
- π¦ Banking applications (Sberbank, Tinkoff, etc.) β may not come SMS push.
On POCO models (like the POCO F5 or the POCO X5 Pro), there is an additional MIUI optimization setting hidden in the developer to disable it:
- Activate Developer Mode (7 times tap the MIUI version in Settings β About Phone).
- Back to Settings β Additionally. β For developers.
- Find MIUI Optimization and turn it off.
- You can also turn off the Background Limit for all applications.
π‘
If after disabling the restrictions, the application still does not work in the background, try clearing its cache in Settings β Apps β [Select the application] β Storage β Clear the cache.
Method 3: Reset battery settings (if standard methods don't work)
Sometimes, the energy saving settings can be sluggish due to a system failure or after a MIUI update, and in these cases, resetting the battery settings helps, and it won't delete your data, but it will return all the energy consumption parameters to factory values.
- Open the Settings. β Battery.
- Slip on the three points in the upper right corner (or additionally).
- Select Reset Battery Settings (on some firmwares this item is called Reset Default Settings).
- Confirm the action and restart the device.
After resetting, you will have to reset the restrictions for applications (see Method 2), but this often solves problems with suddenly turning on power saving. On Xiaomi models with HyperOS (such as Xiaomi 13T), this item may be in Settings β System β Settings Reset β Battery Reset.
What to do if there is no item "Reset Battery settings"?
Warning: on devices with heavily modified firmware (such as custom ROMs), resetting battery settings can lead to unstable operation. In such cases, it is better to back up through Settings β Additional β Backup and Reset.
Method 4: Disconnecting energy saving via ADB (for power users)
If all the previous methods have failed, and the power saving mode continues to activate spontaneously, you can use ADB debugging. This method requires connecting the smartphone to the computer and basic command line knowledge, but it gives 100% results.
- Enable USB Debugging in Settings β About Phone β MIUI (7 taps) β For Developers β Debugging over USB.
- Connect the phone to the PC and confirm the debugging permission.
- Download ADB Tools and unpack into any folder.
- Open the command line (Windows) or terminal (macOS/Linux) in this folder.
- Enter the command to check the connection: Adb devices should appear the name of your device.
- Execute the command to turn off energy saving: adb shell dumpsys deviceidle force-idle Then: adb shell settings put global low_power_mode 0
To disable restrictions for a particular application (e.g. Telegram) use:
adb shell dumpsys battery unplug
adb shell cmd appops set org.telegram.messenger RUN_ANY_IN_BACKGROUND allowImportant: Reboot the device after the ADB-command is executed, otherwise the changes may not take effect, a method that is especially relevant for devices with MIUI 14 and HyperOS, where standard settings may be ignored by the system.

Method 5: Check hardware constraints (for older models)
Xiaomi devices from 2017-2019 (e.g. Redmi Note 5, Mi A1, Mi 8) can activate hardware power saving mode that is not software-enabled, due to battery wear or power controller malfunctions.
- β‘ Smartphone discharges in 2-3 hours even with minimal load.
- π In the battery settings appears message Recommended battery replacement.
- β οΈ The device spontaneously turns off at 20-30% charge.
- π Performance falls even after all energy saving modes are turned off.
In such cases, standard methods will not help - you need to replace the battery or repair the power board.
- Enter the dialer code: ##4636##
- Select Battery Information.
- Check the parameters Health level (should be >80%) and Temperature (normal 25-40 Β° C).
If the battery is below 70%, it needs to be replaced, and for Xiaomi models, you can do it in the service center or on your own (if you have experience).
| Model of the device | Battery cost (original) | Difficulty of replacement (1-10) |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10 Pro | 1 200β1 500 β½ | 6 |
| Xiaomi Mi 11 | 1 800β2 200 β½ | 7 |
| POCO X3 Pro | 1 000β1 300 β½ | 5 |
| Redmi 9A | 800β1 000 β½ | 4 |
| Xiaomi 13 Lite | 2 000β2 500 β½ | 8 |

If the battery is still activated after the battery is replaced, the problem may be the power controller, which requires a diagnosis at the service center.
Additional tips: how to prevent automatic power saving
Even after all modes are turned off, MIUI can activate energy saving again under certain conditions.
- Turn off automatic optimization: Go to Settings β Battery β Battery settings β Battery optimization. Turn off the slider Automatic optimization.
- Set up an energy saving scheduler: In Settings β Battery β Energy saving mode β Schedule turn off all automatic rules.
- Update MIUI to the latest version: In Settings β About Phone β Update system check for updates. Newer versions often fix power saving bugs.
Use alternative launchers:
- Install a Nova Launcher or Lawnchair β they can bypass some of the MIUIβs limitations.

Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Many users experience problems with power-savings shutdowns due to wrong actions, and here are the most common mistakes and solutions:
- β Do not restart the device after changes. β All power saving settings apply only after rebooting. Always reboot your smartphone!
- β Disable only the main mode, ignoring restrictions for applications. β Check the settings of each messenger and social network separately (see Method 2).
- β Use "Cleanup" in the battery menu, thinking it's a reset. β "Cleaning removes the cache, not resets the settings.
- β Try to turn off energy saving through the "Developer Mode" without activating it. β First, you need to tap the version 7 times. MIUI, to unlock these settings.
