Are you tired of constantly checking if your phone is on charge? Or do you want Xiaomi to report charging, battery level, or full charge? Voice alerts are not only convenient, but also useful for those who are monitoring battery health. Unfortunately, standard MIUI settings do not have such a feature, but it can be activated by hidden means or using third-party applications.
In this article, we will discuss all working methods for Redmi models, POCO Xiaomi’s flagships (including Xiaomi) 13/14, Redmi Note 12, POCO F5). You'll learn how to set up voice notifications without root rights, which apps are safe to use, and why sometimes the feature stops working, and an exclusive way to use automation. Why Xiaomi doesn’t talk when charging by default?
The manufacturer deliberately does not add voice alerts to the standard firmware for several reasons:
- 🔋 Energy savings: Excess beeps drain the battery (albeit slightly).
- 📱 Minimalism of the interface: MIUI Avoiding “spam” notifications.
- 🎤 Localization: Voice packets take up space in memory, and in some countries the function is simply not in demand.
- 🔊 Google Assistant: Xiaomi is pushing its own solutions (e.g. XiaoAI) but they don’t work in all markets.
But that doesn't mean that the capability is completely absent. There are hidden parameters in the firmware, and MIUI 13 and 14 have automation tools that allow you to get around the limitations, and then you have detailed instructions for each method.
Method 1: Hidden MIUI settings (without root)
The most reliable way is to activate the hidden voice notification function through the engineering menu, which works on most devices with MIUI 12-14, but requires caution: improper actions can bring down network settings.
Instructions:
- Open the Phone app and type in the combination: ##36446337## (code for accessing the MTK Engineer Mode engineering menu). On Snapdragon chips, use ##4636##.
- Go to the Hardware Testing → Audio section.
- Select Loud Speaker Mode and enable Voice Prompts.
- Go back to the main menu and find Battery Testing → Charge Voice. Activate the switch.
- Reboot the phone.
After that, when you connect the charger, the phone should say phrases like "charging has begun" or "charge level 80%." If the menu is in English, use an interpreter or focus on the name of the partitions.

Method 2: Automation through Modes and Automation (MIUI 13/14)
Newer versions of MIUI have introduced Mode and Automation, which allows you to create event-based triggers, and we'll use it to play voice notifications.
Step-by-step:
- Open Settings → Modes and Automation → Automation.
- Click Create and select If.
- As a condition, specify Charging → Connected to charging.
- Add the action Multimedia → Play the sound.
- Select system sound (e.g. Alarm) or upload your voice file (.mp3 format, up to 5 seconds).
- Save the rule and activate it.
For advanced users: you can add several conditions, for example:
- 🔊 Reproduce different sounds at 20%, 50% and 100% charge.
- 🕒 Disable notifications at night (add time) → 23:00 to 7:00).
- 📴 Use vibration instead of sound when your phone is silent.

To record your own voice file, use the Voice Record (included in MIUI) or Voice Recorder app. Save the file in MP3 format with a bitrate of 64-128 kbps to save space.
Method 3: Third-party applications (without root)

Method 4: XiaoAI Voice Assistant (China/Global Firmware only)
Xiaomi phones for the Chinese market pre-installed voice assistant XiaoAI, which can voice notifications about charging, on global firmware, it is often disabled, but it can be activated.
Instructions:
- Install the latest version of XiaoAI from the Mi App Store (if the app is not available).
- Open Settings → Applications → Application Management → XiaoAI.
- Enable permissions: Microphone, Notifications, AutoRun.
- In the app itself, go to Settings → Voice reminders and activate the Charge option.
Limitations of the method:
- 🌍 It only works in Chinese (CN) and some of the global (MI) firmware.
- 🗣️ The default voice is in Chinese, but you can change the language in the settings (not on all models).
- 🔄 After updating MIUI may fall off.

- 🔌 If you use wireless charging, check the settings in the notification app – not all programs support Qi charging.
- 📵 Fast-charging (30W/67W/120W) Voice alerts can be turned off automatically to save energy. → Battery.
- 🔊 If the sound is quiet, check the volume of system notifications (adjusted separately from the media in Settings). → Sound).

On models with MIUI 14 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip (such as Xiaomi 13 Pro), voice notifications may conflict with the Long Life Battery function. Turn it off in Settings → Battery → Modes.
Bonus: Alternative ways to control charging
If voice notifications don’t work, consider these options:
- 📱 Battery widget: Add the Battery widget to the main screen (long press) → Widgets).
- 🔔 Lighting: On some models (Redmi Note 11 Pro)+) You can set the flashing of the LED when charging (Settings) → Screen. → LED indicator).
- 📊 Smart sockets: Connect charging to a Wi-Fi outlet (like Xiaomi Mi Smart Plug) and set up notifications in Mi Home.
- ⚡ Charging sounds: In Settings → Sound. → System sounds select the melody to connect charging (no voice).
