The battery icon on Xiaomi smartphones is not just a charge indicator, but part of the visual style of the MIUI interface. Many users want to personalize it: someone prefers a percentage indicator, someone needs a color icon, and some want to remove the icon from the notification panel altogether. In this article, we will analyze all possible ways to change the battery icon, from official settings to hidden functions available through the engineering menu.
Important: on Xiaomi models with MIUI 14+ and Android 13+, some methods require activation of the developer mode, since the manufacturer has limited access to some system parameters.

The standard MIUI settings allow you to choose just a few options for displaying charge: an icon with percentages, no interest, or a hidden indicator. But what if you need more? For example, change the color of the icon, make it animated or replace it with a custom one? This will require additional tools, from apps from Google Play to manual editing of system files.

1. Standard MIUI settings: how to turn on charge percentages
The easiest way to change battery display is to use the built-in MIUI options. This method works on all official firmware and does not require superuser rights (root).
Open Settings β Notification Panel and Status bar. Here you will find Battery Indicator. Depending on the version of MIUI, the following options are available:
- π Icon without interest is a standard display (battery icon without numbers).
- π Interest icon β the current charge is displayed inside the icon (e.g., β87%β).
- π Percentage only β instead of the icon, only a digital value is shown (not available on all models).
- π« Hide the indicator β the battery icon will disappear from the notification panel (not recommended, as you wonβt see the charge level).
On some devices (such as Xiaomi 13 Pro or Redmi Note 12), you can also turn on the option Color Battery Indicator in this menu. When activated, the icon will change color depending on the level of charge: green (high charge), yellow (medium), red (low).
β οΈ Warning: On smartphones with AMOLED- screens (e.g., Xiaomi 14 or POCO F5), constantly displaying percentages can slightly increase battery consumption due to active pixels. If autonomy is critical, choose the option without numbers.
If you donβt have Battery Indicator on your menu, you probably have an outdated version of MIUI (below 12.5). Update your firmware through Settings β About Phone β System Update or use alternative methods from the following sections.
βββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
2 Hidden settings MIUI: engineering menu and ADB- commands
If standard options are not enough, you can use hidden MIUI functions. You need to activate the developer mode and use the ADB (Android Debug Bridge) or engineering menu.
First, turn on the developer mode:
- Go to Settings. β The phone.
- Click 7 times in a row on the MIUI version (the notification βYou became a developerβ will appear).
- Return to the main settings menu and open Additional β for developers.
- Activate the debugging switch over USB.
Now connect your smartphone to your PC and execute one of the following commands via ADB (install Minimal ADB and Fastboot from the official website):
# Display percentages inside the battery icon
adb shell settings put global status_bar_show_battery_percent 1
Display interest next to the icon
adb shell settings put global status_bar_show_battery_percent 2
Hide the percentages (Icon only)
adb shell settings put global status_bar_show_battery_percent 0To apply the changes, restart the device. If the commands don't work, check if MIUI Optimization blocks them (in the developer settings, turn off MIUI Optimization).
What to do if ADB is not working?
You can also change the style of the icon through the engineering menu.
- Open the Phone app.
- Enter the combination ##4636##.
- Go to the section Information about the battery.
- Here you can turn on the display of the battery temperature or reset the charge statistics (it is useful if the indicator shows incorrect values).
β οΈ Warning: Changing the parameters in the engineering menu can cause the system to run in an unstable way. Do not edit settings that you do not know what you want to do. For example, resetting battery statistics unnecessarily can impair the calibration of the charge.

3. Applications for customization of battery icons
If you need more options than what is offered MIUIYou can use third-party apps, which allow you to change the style of the icon, add animations, and even install your own images. Let's take a look at the top-3 decisions:
| Annex | Functions | Need root? | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battery Icon Changer | Replacement of icons with custom, color schemes, percentage indicator | No. | Google Play |
| Energy Bar | Dynamic charge band on the edge of the screen, color settings | No. | Google Play |
| Hex Installer | Deep customization of system icons (requires Magisk) | Yes. | XDA Developers |
For example, Battery Icon Changer allows you to replace the standard icon with one of the 50+ preinstalled or download your own via the PNG- file. The application runs on top of the system and does not require root rights, but can slightly increase battery consumption (up to 1-2% per day).
For deeper customization, Hex Installer is fine, but it requires a Magisk installed (root access), which can change not only the battery icon, but also other system elements, such as network icons or Wi-Fi.
π‘
Before installing customization apps, back up your current MIUI theme. Go to Topics β My Topics β Backup.
Note that some applications (e.g., Energy Bar) may conflict with MIUI features, such as Read Mode or Dark Theme. If graphic artifacts appear after installation, try disabling overlay in the special features settings (Settings β Special Features β Special Options Services).

4. Change icons through Magisk and system modules
More flexible customization methods are available for advanced users who are ready to root, one of which is installing modules for Magisk that modify MIUI system files.
The most popular modules for changing the battery icon:
- π§ Miui Battery Icon Mod β replaces the standard icon with a circular indicator with percentages.
- π¨ Battery Styles for MIUI β offers 10+ styles, including animated versions.
- π SystemUI Tuner β allows you to fine-tune the display of the battery, signal and other indicators.
For the installation of the module:
- Install Magisk Manager and get root access.
- Download the module (for example, from the XDA Developers forum or the developerβs Telegram channel).
- Open Magisk, go to the Modules section and click Install from Storage.
- Select the downloaded file (.zip) and confirm the installation.
- Reset the device.
Make sure that the battery charge is > 50%
Backup of data (via TWRP or MIUI Backup)
Disable the antivirus (it can block the installation)
Download the module only from verified sources (XDA, GitHub)
Check the compatibility of the module with your version MIUI-->
After the reboot, the new settings will appear in the Settings β Notifications menu or in the module app. For example, Battery Styles for MIUI adds a separate section to select the icon style where you can configure:
- The shape (rectangular, round, linear).
- Color (static or dynamic depending on charge)
- Animation while charging.
- Display temperature or time until full discharge.
β οΈ Warning: Installing incompatible modules may result in a bootloop (loop reboot).Be sure that the module supports your version of MIUI and smartphone model before experimenting. For example, modules for the Redmi Note 10 may not work on Xiaomi 13T.

5. Manual editing of system files (for experienced)
If you are not afraid to βdigβ in the system files, you can manually replace the battery icon by editing the APK- file SystemUI.apk. This method requires:
- Root rights.
- Ability to work with APKTool or Smali.
- Backup of the system (in case of error).
Step-by-step:
- Download SystemUI.apk from /system/priv-app/SystemUI/ (use Root Explorer or ADB Pull).
- Unpack APK with APKTool: apktool d SystemUI.apk -o SystemUI_folder
- Go to the SystemUI_folder/res/drawable folder and find the battery icon files (usually called stat_sys_battery_*.png).
- Replace them with your images (size and format should match!).
- Collect APK back: apktool b SystemUI_folder -o SystemUI_mod.apk
- Sign a modified APK (e.g., via uber-apk-signer).
- Install it back into the system via ADB or TWRP.
This method allows you to create a unique icon, but it is risky: an error in the assembly of the APK can lead to the collapse of the system. If after replacing the SystemUI smartphone stopped booting, restore the original file through TWRP or reflash the device.
π‘
SystemUI.apk is the most flexible customization method, but also the most dangerous one, and only use it if you are confident in your skills or have experience with APK decompilation.

6. Features for different Xiaomi models
Not all methods work equally well on different Xiaomi devices, and this is what you need to consider depending on the model and version of MIUI:
| Model/Series | Features | Recommended method |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 13/14, Redmi K60 | MIUI 14+ with strict restrictions on system changes. ADB- commands may not work without disabling MIUI Optimization. | Standard settings or applications without root (e.g. Energy Bar) |
| POCO F4/F5, Redmi Note 12 | A more open system, supported by most ADB- commands, may not have a color indicator on the POCO. | ADB or Magisk modules (e.g. Battery Styles) |
| Xiaomi 11T, Mi 11 | MIUI 12.5-13.5, good compatibility with customization, possible bugs with some modules. | Magisk or manual editing of SystemUI. |
| Redmi 9/10, POCO M4 | Budget models with reduced MIUI functions. There is no option "Only interest". | Apps from Google Play or ADB. |
On Android One devices (such as the Xiaomi Mi A3), the battery settings menu may differ, as they use βpureβ Android.
- π§ Use applications like Battery Percent Enabler (requires ADB).
- π¨ Install a launcher with themes support (e.g. Nova Launcher + KWGT).
If you use custom firmware (like LineageOS or ArrowOS), the battery settings may be in another section, usually through Settings β System β Status String.

7.How to Return a Standard Battery Icon
If you want to return everything βas it wasβ after the customization experiments, use one of the following methods:
For standard MIUI settings:
- Go to Settings β Notification Panel and Status bar β Battery indicator.
- Choose the option of the Icon without interest (or another standard style).
- Reset the device.
If you have used ADB- commands, do:
adb shell settings delete global status_bar_show_battery_percentTo reverse the changes through Magisk:
- Open Magisk Manager.
- Go to the Modules section.
- Find the module responsible for the battery icon and remove it (swipe left).
- Reset the device.
If you manually edited SystemUI.apk and you have problems, restore the original file:
- Download the stock firmware for your model from the Xiaomi Firmware Updater website.
- Remove the original SystemUI.apk (located in payload.bin or system.img).
- Install it back through ADB or TWRP.
β οΈ Warning: If after removing the Magisk module or restoring SystemUI.apk the battery icon does not return to standard, reset settings via Settings β Additional β Reset (select Reset UI settings, not a full reset!).
