Xiaomi's external batteries are some of the most popular on the market, thanks to a combination of price, capacity and reliability. However, even such devices have situations where forced shutdowns are required, from saving charge to troubleshooting. Unlike smartphones, where the shutdown is intuitive, Xiaomi power banks often confuse users β where the button, how to press it correctly, and why the device does not respond?
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to disable Xiaomiβs Power Bank (including Mi Power Bank 3/4 Pro, Redmi 10000mAh and others), explain the differences between βsleep modeβ and full shutdown, and warn against typical errors that can bring a device down, and pay special attention to hidden features that are not written in the official instructions β for example, how to reset the power bank settings to factory.
1. Standard button shutdown: where it is and how to press
Most Xiaomi Power Bank models have a physical power button, but its location and logic depend on the generation of the device. For example, in Mi Power Bank 3 Pro, the button is hidden under a plastic panel with indicators, and in Redmi 10000mAh it is brought to the end. The main rule is that one short press turns on / off the current on the ports, but does not turn off the device itself!
To turn off the power bank completely (for example, for transportation), do the following:
- π Press and hold the power button for 3-5 seconds until all the lights go out. Some models (such as Mi Power Bank 4) require holding up to 8 seconds.
- β‘ If the lights flash red, it's a low charge signal (less than 5%) rather than a shutdown.
- π In the models with USB-C (For example, Mi Power Bank. 3C) First, disconnect all cables β otherwise the button may not work.
Important: After a complete shutdown, the power bank goes into deep sleep mode and will not respond to the connection of devices, and it will take a long press of the button (usually 2-3 seconds) to turn it on again.
2. Automatic shutdown: when the power bank shuts down itself
All modern Power Bank from Xiaomi supports auto-disconnection in three cases:
- No load: If the devices are not connected to the ports for 30 to 60 seconds, the current stops (the indicators go out).
- Critical discharge: at a charge level below 5%, the device shuts down to protect the battery, and you can only restore work after recharging.
- Overheating or short circuit: If the temperature exceeds 60Β°C or if the KZ is detected, an emergency shutdown is triggered, in which case the indicators flash red.
To check the state of your power bank, pay attention to the LEDs:
| Status. | Indication | Action. |
|---|---|---|
| It's working (charging is coming) | White/blue diodes are burning or blinking | Turn off the cables for auto-disconnection |
| Sleeping mode. | One diode flashes once every 4 seconds. | Press the button to wake up quickly. |
| Total shutdown | All diodes are out. | Long pressing of the button to enable |
| Mistake (overheating/CZ) | Red flashing diodes | Disconnect all devices, let them cool down. |
If the power bank does not automatically shut down despite no load, this may indicate a faulty controller or firmware, in which case the reset will help (see section 5).
3. Software disabling via the application (for smart models)
Some Xiaomi models, such as Mi Smart Power Bank 1C or Mi Power Bank 4 Pro, support management via the official Mi Home app (Bluetooth connection required).
- π± Remotely turn on/off current.
- π View the level of charge in real time.
- βοΈ Set up a timer for auto-disconnection (for example, 1 hour after the last charge).
Instructions for setting:
- Install the Mi Home app from Google Play or the App Store.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone and bring it to the power bank.
- In the app, click Add Device β Power Bank and follow the instructions.
- After connecting, go to the device settings and activate the Auto-Disconnect option when inactivity.
Note that not all models support this feature, for example, the budget Redmi Power Bank does not have a Bluetooth module. You can check the full list of compatible devices on the official Xiaomi website.

If your powerbank is not defined in Mi Home, try resetting it to factory settings (Section 5) and reconnecting.
4. Forced shutdown when getting stuck
Sometimes Power Bank can freeze, the indicators are on, but the charge is not going, or the device does not respond to the button, in which case the hardware reset will help.
For most devices (e.g. Mi Power Bank 3/4, Redmi 10000mAh):
- π Unplug all cables.
- π Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds until the lights go out and light up again.
- π Release the button - the device reboots.
For USB-C models (e.g. Mi Power Bank 3C):
- Connect the power bank to the charger (5V/2A).
- Hold the power button for 8 seconds, then release.
- If the indicators flashed blue, the reset was successful.
β οΈ Warning: Do not use needles or other sharp objects to reset - this can damage the button. If the power bank does not respond to hold the button, the controller may be defective (repair required).
Shut down all cables.|Check the level of charge (minimum 10%)|Use the original cable|Hold the button strictly in time-->
5. Reset to factory settings: when nothing helps
If the power bank is unstable (it turns on spontaneously, doesnβt hold a charge, doesnβt display battery level correctly), a complete reset may be required, which erases all user settings (such as auto-disconnect timers in smart models) and restores factory firmware.
Instructions for most models:
- Charge the power bank to at least 30% (resetting at low charge can cause battery damage).
- Disconnect all devices from ports.
- Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds until the indicators start flashing in a non-standard sequence (for example, alternately).
- Release the button and the reset process will begin (it can take up to 1 minute).
- After the reset, all indicators will go out and light up again - the reset is completed.
For Bluetooth models (e.g. Mi Smart Power Bank 1C):
- π± Open the Mi Home app and go to Powerbank Settings.
- π§ Select Settings Reset. β Confirm.
- π Wait for the process to be completed (the device will restart).
β οΈ Attention: Resetting does not solve the problem of physical wear of the battery. If after the procedure the capacity of the power bank has not recovered, most likely, a replacement of the battery is required.
What if the reset didn't help?
6. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
Many users mishandle Power Bank, resulting in rapid wear and tear or breakdown, and here are the most common mistakes:
- π Use of non-original cables: cheap cables can cause short circuits or overheating. Always use certified accessories.
- π‘οΈ Operating at extreme temperatures: charging/discharging at temperatures below 0Β°C or higher than 40Β°C reduces battery life.
- π Storage discharged: if you leave the power bank with a charge of 0% for a long time, the battery can fail%.
- β‘ Use of powerful chargers: for example, connecting a power bank to charging on 65W The maximum allowable current is indicated on the housing (usually 2A for USB-A and 3A for USB-C).
To extend the life of your Xiaomi Power Bank, follow the following simple rules:
- π Every 3 months, complete a full discharge-charging cycle (0% to 100%) to calibrate the controller.
- π§Ή Clean ports of dust and dirt with compressed air or a soft brush.
- π¦ Keep the device in a dry place, avoiding direct sunlight.
π‘
Compliance with these rules will increase the life of the power bank by 30-50%, the average life of Xiaomi lithium polymer batteries is 500-800 charging cycles.
