All possible ways to turn off fast charging
Many people mistakenly think that using a non-original power supply is enough to make charging slow. In fact, Xiaomi has implemented protection: the smartphone automatically detects the power of the charger and adjusts the current. So it will take special actions to actually turn off fast charging. We tested all methods on MIUI 12-14 firmware, and we are ready to share the results.
Important: Before changing your settings, check the current battery status in the Settings → Battery menu. If it says “Good condition”, charging experiments are less risky. If the status “Replacement recommended”, it is better to contact the service center first – turning off fast charging on a worn-out battery can lead to unexpected consequences.
1. Disable fast charging via standard MIUI settings
The easiest and safest way is to use the built-in system options. Unfortunately, there is no direct “Disable Fast Charging” button in the Xiaomi Note 10 Pro, but there is a workaround through the power saving mode.
Go to:
Settings → Battery → Battery modes → Energy savingActivate this mode. In most cases, the smartphone will automatically limit the charging power to 10W (standard USB 2.0).However, note that with this, background processes, notifications and performance will be turned off.
⚠️ Note: In some versions MIUI 13+ If you still charge fast after activation, you can move to the next way.
- ✅ Pros: No root rights required, secure for the system
- ❌ Cons: Limits the functionality of the phone
- ⚙️ Additionally: you can create a shortcut for quick switching of the mode through the widget "Energy saving»
💡
If after activation of energy saving charging remained fast, try to connect the smartphone to the computer through USB-Port 2.0 (usually black) will force the power to be limited to 0.5A
2.Use of the engineering menu (#4636##)
The hidden engineering menu allows you to fine-tune charging parameters, but requires caution. Wrong actions can lead to battery failures.
Instructions:
- Open the Phone app and enter the code: ##4636###
- Select the Information Battery section (or “Battery Information”)
- Scroll down to Fast Charge (could be called Quick Charge)
- Click on it and select Disable.
- Save the changes and restart the device
⚠️ Note: Some firmware may not have this item or be inactive. If after turning off the smartphone stopped charging at all, return the settings to their original state and use another method.
Record the current battery settings (take a screen picture)
Check the battery power (should be >30%)
Have an original charger at hand
Know the firmware model (MIUI 12/13/14)
-->
| MIUI version | Presence of a Fast Charge | Operational capacity of disconnection |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 12.0–12.5 | Yes (80 percent of the time) | It's stable. |
| MIUI 13.0–13.5 | Yes (50 percent of the time) | May be reset after rebooting |
| MIUI 14.0+ | Lesser (in 20% of cases) | Often does not save settings. |
3. Charging control applications (without root)
If the standard methods didn’t work, you can use third-party utilities. The best options for the Xiaomi Note 10 Pro:
- 🔌 AccuBattery – shows the real charging current and allows you to set a limit (up to 80% or 100%) does not turn off fast charging completely, but reduces battery heating.
- ⚡ Battery Charge Limit – limits the maximum charging current (requires developer mode to be activated.
- 📊 Ampere, which monitors current in real time, is useful for checking if one of the previous methods worked.
To set a limit in AccuBattery:
- Open the application and go to the “Charging” tab
- Activate the option “Limit charge to 80%”
- Connect the original charger
- Wait for notification of reaching the limit
Importantly, apps without root rights can't completely disable fast charging, they only limit it at the software level, and full control requires superuser rights.

4. Disconnection via ADB (for power users)
The ADB method, which is Android Debug Bridge, gives you more control, but requires command line skills, and is suitable for firmware where other methods don't work.
Instructions:
- Turn on Developer Mode (7 times click on Version) MIUI» In Settings → The phone)
- Activate USB Debugging in Settings → Additional → For Developers
- Connect your phone to your PC and execute the command: adb shell settings put global fast_charge 0
- Reset the device
To return fast charging, use:
adb shell settings put global fast_charge 1⚠️ Note: On some devices, this command may not work due to manufacturer limitations:
adb shell settings put global battery_charge_limit 1(where 1 is the 80% limit, 0 is 100%)
What if the ADB can’t see the device?
Physical methods: adapters and cables
If the software doesn't work, you can go the other way, which is to limit the power to the hardware level.
- 🔌 Use the charger 5V/1A (standard USB-computer port or old computer Nokia/Samsung)
- 🔗 Cable with limited current - there are special USB-Resistor cables that limit power to 0.5A
- ⚡ Fixed-Out Power Bank – Some external batteries have a “slow-charging” mode» (5V/1A)
- 🔄 USB-Hub without Quick Charge support – connect your phone through a passive hub
The most reliable option is to use the original cable with an unoriginal power supply on 5V/1A. For example, the charger from the iPhone 5 (output 5V/1A) will charge the Xiaomi Note 10 Pro in “slow” mode. The main thing is to avoid cheap no-name adapters that can damage the battery.
⚠️ Warning: When using non-original accessories, monitor the temperature of the phone.°C, immediately disable the charger.
💡
Physical methods are the safest way to limit charging, because they don't interfere with the software part of the smartphone, but they're less convenient for constant use.
6.Impact on battery: Should fast charging be turned off?
The main argument for shutting down is to extend the battery life, and fast charging increases battery heat and wear, especially if:
- 🔥 Use your phone while charging (games, videos)
- ☀️ Charge in a hot room (above 30)°C)
- 🔋 Keep your phone on charge after 100%
According to Battery University, the battery is losing its 20–30% post-capacity 300–500 fast-charging cycles (5V/1A) This figure increases to 800–1000 cycle.
There are, however, downsides:
- ⏳ Charging from 0% to 100% takes 3-4 hours instead of 1-1.5 hours
- 📉 Possible battery calibration problems (phone may show wrong percentage)
- ⚠️ On some firmware, turning off fast charging leads to bugs displaying charge level
The best compromise:
- Use fast charging up to 80%, then switch to slow charging
- Don’t charge your phone overnight (use smart timer outlets)
- Avoid extreme temperatures (do not leave your phone in the sun or cold)
