Why your Xiaomi might not use fast charging (even if it’s supported)
Did you buy the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ smartphone with claimed support for 120W fast charging, but when connected to the network, the device persistently shows “Charge (slow)”? Or does your POCO F5 with a 30W adapter charge longer than promised in the ads? There may be several reasons - from banal (the wrong cable) to hidden in the MIUI firmware.
The fact is that fast charging on Xiaomi only works if three key conditions are met: a compatible power adapter, a quality cable, and the right settings in the system, and even if you use a “native” kit, a smartphone can artificially limit current due to overheating, battery wear or power saving features included. In this article, we will discuss all ways to force fast charging to be activated, from the obvious to the little-known.
Important: Not all Xiaomi models support the same charging protocols. For example, the Redmi 10 is limited to 18W, and the Xiaomi 13 Ultra can accept up to 67W - but only with the original adapter. If you are not sure about the characteristics of your device, check them in the Settings → About Phone → Specifications.
Step 1: Check the compatibility of the adapter and cable
The first thing to do is make sure you're using the right power supply and cable. Even if the adapter says "Quick Charge 3.0," it doesn't guarantee compatibility with Xiaomi protocol.
- 🔌 Original adapters: they only guarantee maximum speed. 12T Pro needs an adapter on 120W (model MDY-12-ED), A for the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ — on 67W (MDY-11-EP).
- ⚡ Charging protocols: Xiaomi uses its own standards (Mi Turbo Charge, HyperCharge) and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge (but not always at full capacity).
- 🔗 Cable: must maintain current at least 3A (better 5A model 67W+). Normal. USB-C The cables from the headphone set will not work.
How do you check your current charging power? Connect your smartphone to the network and look at Settings → Battery. If it says ~5V/1A, it means standard charging. For comparison, 30W should have ~10V/3A, and 120W should have ~20V/6A.
⚠️ Warning: Never use adapters with power higher than your smartphone supports! 9A (max. 10W) ce 120W-The block can lead to overheating and damage to the battery.
Step 2: MIUI settings to enable fast charging
Even with the right adapter, fast charging can be software-enabled. There are a few hidden and explicit parameters in MIUI firmware that affect charging speed.
- Battery Saving Mode: Go to Settings → Battery → Battery Mode and select Performance instead of Balanced or Saving.
- Charging optimization: in Settings → Battery → Battery settings → Turn off the option “Optimized Charging” (it limits current to 80% to extend battery life).
- Hidden Developer Settings: activate Developer Mode (click 7 times on the MIUI version in About Phone), then in Settings → Additional → For developers, find the "Background Limitation" item and turn it off for all applications.
If after these manipulations the charging is still slow, try resetting the battery settings:
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select “Reset App Settings”.
- Confirm the action and restart the smartphone.
Check the adapter model (must be original)
Use a USB-C cable with 5A support
Turn off the battery saving mode
Turn off optimized charging
Reboot your smartphone-->
Step 3: Firmware problems and their solution
Sometimes fast charging doesn't work because of bugs in MIUI, especially for custom firmware or after air updates, and here are the typical scenarios and solutions:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Charging is on 5W despite a 30W adapter | Failure in the kernel of the system (kernel) | Update to the latest version or reflash through Fastboot |
| The smartphone warms and reduces the current | Active background processes or damaged battery | Close all applications, check the battery status in ##4636## |
| Fast charging only works up to 80% | The “Smart Charging” function is enabled | Turn off the settings → Battery → Battery settings |
| The adapter is defined as an “unidentified device”. | A USB-C port or cable is damaged. | Try another cable/port, clean the connector from dust |
If the problem occurred after the MIUI update, try retracing to the previous version via Recovery.
- Download the necessary firmware from the site en.miui.com.
- Rename the file to update.zip and place it in the root of the memory.
- Go to Settings → About Phone → System Update, click on three dots → “Select a firmware file.”
What to do if the smartphone does not turn on after firmware?
Step 4: Diagnostic the battery and USB-C port
Over time, the battery degrades and the contacts in the USB-C port become oxidized or contaminated, which directly affects the charging speed.
- 🔋 Battery status: type in dial ##4636##, select Battery Information. If health shows "bad" or "unknown", the battery needs to be replaced.
- 🔌 Port port USB-C: shine a flashlight into the connector - if foreign objects or oxidation are visible, gently clean it with a wooden toothpick (not metallic!).
- 🌡️ Overheating: If the smartphone body is hot while charging, the system automatically reduces current.Let the device cool or remove the case.
For accurate battery diagnosis, use the AccuBattery app (available on Google Play) to show the actual battery capacity and charging speed in mA. 30W-Adapter, the problem is definitely in the "iron».
⚠️ Note: if after cleaning the port USB-C charging still doesn't work, don't try to move the cable in the connector, it can damage the contacts.
Step 5: Alternative ways to accelerate charging
If standard methods do not help, try these non-obvious techniques:
- ✈️ Flight mode: disables all radio modules (Wi-Fi, 4G, Bluetooth, which reduces the load on the processor and allows the battery to charge faster.
- ❄️ Cooling: Put your smartphone on a metal surface or use a cooling stand. at temperatures below 30°C system will not limit current.
- 🔄 Factory reset: If the problem has occurred after an update or app installation, a full reset can help!
- 🔧 Change the charging protocol: for advanced users - by using ADB Quick Charge can be forced to be enabled even on incompatible adapters (but it is risky!).
The latter method will require:
- Connect the smartphone to the PC and enable debugging over USB in the developer settings.
- Introduce in command line: adb shell settings put global fast_charge_force_enable 1
- Reset the device.
💡
If you charge your smartphone frequently on the go, buy a powerbank with Quick Charge 3.0+ support. Even if it’s not from Xiaomi, the smartphone will charge at 18W instead of the standard 5W.
Xiaomi models and their support for fast charging (Table 2026)
Not all Xiaomi smartphones support the same charging standards, as follows: the current table for popular models (data as of June 2026):
| Model | Max. Charging power. | Protocol | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 14 Ultra | 90W (wireless) / 80W (wireless) | HyperCharge | Requires the original MDY-13-EC adapter |
| Redmi Note 13 Pro+ | 120W | Mi Turbo Charge | Charges up to 100% in 19 minutes (according to manufacturer) |
| POCO F6 Pro | 67W | Quick Charge 4+ | Supports charging from 0 to 50% in 15 minutes |
| Xiaomi 13T | 67W | Mi Turbo Charge | Wireless charging – 10W (requires a separate station) |
| Redmi 12 | 18W | Quick Charge 3.0 | The actual speed is often limited to 10W due to the budget controller. |
Note: Even if your model supports 67W, the actual speed may be lower due to:
- Use of non-original cable (max. 3A instead of 5A).
- Active use of the smartphone during charging (games, video calls).
- Ambient temperatures (at <10°C or >40°C, the speed drops).
💡
If your smartphone is older than 2020, it probably doesn’t support fast charging protocols newer than Quick Charge 3.0, in which case even the original adapter will not give you speed gains beyond 18W.
